-Sawinder Singh, Amritsar : On the eve of National Handloom Day, FICCI FLO Amritsar in association with The Couture by KJH, and in collaboration with Punjab Prison Service, Government of Punjab, The Cocoon Foundation & NIIFT hosted its another one-of-a-kind event ‘Kaarigari’ at Taj Swarna. Guest of Honor Parveen Kumar Sinha IPS, ADGP Prisons, Punjab joined FLO Amritsar as the event.
The event was graced by three acclaimed celebutantes- Rahul Mishra, Monica Shah and Lara Dutta, who joined FLO Amritsar’s initiative of promoting and preserving our traditional craftsmanship and handlooms. The event was commenced with the signing of MOU between Manjot Dhillon, Chairperson, FLO Amritsar, and Avneet Kaur PCS, Director NIIFT. An inspirational video message by Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Punjab, added glory to the galore. This dose of encouragement was followed by the much awaited unveiling of FLO Amritsar’s unique initiative of reviving Punjab’s traditional handloom heritage asset- khes by upskilling women inmates- Kaarigari
The unveiling of the initiative was followed by the welcoming and introduction of the designers Monica Shah and Rahul Mishra, who shared their opinions on the value of craftsmanship and craftspersons. “Our artisanal legacy is what we should be proud of. Nothing can match the beauty of handcrafted luxuries,” expressed Shah.
Rahul Mishra, a renowned patron of Indian handlooms and craftwork said, “It’s not only about restoring our traditional craftsmanship to its former glory but also about empowering the craftsmen and lauding their unmatched talent by promoting artisanal techniques. “The event also trumpeted its handlook walk wherein some of the members of FLO Amritsar walked the ramp wearing handcrafted pieces of Monica and Rahul. Lara Dutta also supported the cause of empowering women by upskilling them and promoting India’s traditional heritage. “It is sad but true that they are the international organizations that are doing so much to laud the efforts of Indian weavers, and not us,” reveals Lara. She lauded FLO Amritsar for coming forward with such an amazing project like “Kaarigari” that will empower women in a veru unique way. The event concluded with the felicitation ceremony of all the special guests of the day.
